Yes, but not in extreme heat or cold. Ferrets overheat easily.

Be sure they have a dark place to sleep most of the night. There is suggested correlation between sleeping with lights on and cancer in any mammal. Also there is suggested correlation between too much sun and adrenal disease in ferrets.

Be sure to have their rabies and distemper shots and check them for fleas and mites often.

Be sure possums and raccoons can't reach in and get them. They'll kill the ferret if they can.
References :
to the first answer, do not listen to them..
ferrets can not live outside in the heat because they dont have sweat glands.. that means they can die really easily
whereas in the cold they can handle it a lot more.. with a few blankets and maybe a heat pad they will do okay
if your cage is completly away from rain and such they can stay outside in the cold but on hotter days they really need to be somewhere cool..
you can google on how to keep a ferret cool in the hotter months and there is a lot of info but dont listen to the other person please..
they can stay outside though.. i wouldnt do it personally because i think its a bit mean but im a huge animal lover and i would give them my mattress and i would sleep on the floor if i had to.. so i think everything is mean like that lol
goodluck though
References :
owner of three ferrets.. wasabi, noodles and panda

Wow - a 17 page booklet - what a commitment! What you need to buy is the book Ferrets For Dummies and read it cover to cover. And NO they should never be forced outdoors. They're very sensitive to both heat and cold. They also can end up attacked by loose dogs, coyotes or other wild animals in your area.

I find it hard to believe that the "17 page booklet" has taught you "everything" about ferrets. Are you aware of the type of food to feed them? All the diseases they're prone to as they age? That they're obligate carnivores - not rodents? Please do your research. Far too many like you just buy them on a whim then end up dumping them at shelters.
References :
I've had ferrets for over 14 years, serve on the board of a ferret shelter, run an online ferret forum and my website's been featured in, I've been interviewed by Ferrets Magazine a few times and currently write ferret-related articles for an online newspaper.

Hi,
The answer to your question is, yes in the summer they can without problems and with plenty of straw in their cage. However, in the winter months they are not able to. They cannot stand the extreme cold that usually comes with heavy snow.
Enjoy your ferret, I have always wanted one but sadly I'm the only one that does so it's not to be for me.
References :
@vermiman Good ...
@vermiman Good question, in my bigger projects that's not an issue as there is a charge controller that prevents that issue. The problem with these small projects is that the incoming power from these small solar cells is very small. Placing a diode in series (even a low power Schottky) has a huge negative effect on the incoming power. When I tried this on another project where the solar cell was delivering 200 mA, it dropped to a tenth (20 mA) with a diode. Reply continued...

@vermiman ....Reply ...
@vermiman ....Reply continued... The loss at night was minimal and thus it was not worth having the diode. On bigger projects where bigger solar panels are used (I'd guess > 2 watt) with bigger battery voltages the loss at night without a diode becomes significant. The drop in power during the day with a diode is less significant and thus makes sense to use one. In this project the solar cell is only producing about 20 mA max in it's current location. A diode would reduce that to almost nothing.
