Can you plug older christmas lights into the new LED ones?

I bought a few new strands of LED lights this year, and I am wondering if the old style lights can be plugged into them, or is that just defeating the purpose of having the energy savers? Will it short my fuses or cause any damage?

Yes definitely! only the bulbs are different. but they will still use more energy if you connect them
