Another post from Solar Christmas Lights.
Solar Christmas Lights might save you allot of cash on your utility bill at a time of the year when money can be tight.

Yeah, I know its …
Yeah, I know its just become a bit of a slang word I think. The circuits are good at squeezing the last drops out of what seem like dead batteries though.
Glad you like the videos too…

If you just hook it …
If you just hook it up I think that you will find your multimeter is registering the massive spike of voltage. The capacitor will charge, make sure you use a diode to the positive side so you do not damage your Solar cell..

Hi there!
First of …
Hi there!
First of all thank you for all your great vids.
I took several of these garden lights apart a few months ago and I wanted to add one of my super caps to the charging side but there only seems to be a voltage of .3 to .5 which seems to low to work with or have I missed something?. Do you have any suggestions as you said you were going to add a cap yourself. Did you have any luck?

That thing …
That thing supposedly available here in the Philippines, and Our government will purchase it and distribute it to many poor areas in this country that have no electricity yet…. that thing will help a lot to those little kids reading books at night using only a kerosene lamp …. In your country you just use it in your garden, maybe us here we can use it in our living room…. thank’s a lot SIR KUBIKOP… keep uploading useful videos like this….

What you call ” …
What you call “Joule thief”, in this case is just a DC-DC converter, a very well known type of circuits. I think that the term “Joule thief” was used originally to refer a circuit that can get some usable energy from almost depleted batteries (it is a rudimentary steep-up DC-DC converter), so I think that we shouldn’t use that term for everything that uses a coil and an oscillator. Anyway, I enjoy a lot your videos.

You can call it …
You can call it joule thief if you want what those small lamp are using is the same principle they boost the voltage with an inductor. It’s probably the easiest way to do so altought some circuit can boost the voltage with more complicate part ^^

Yeah, cause it …
Yeah, cause it still runs down to the transistor base voltage whilst turning the light on…

just cut the leads on the one you have and put a joule thief circuit on the two connections…

Yeah I do not think …
Yeah I do not think it is the two coil version but the one transistor oscillating with an inductor one…
and A simple dark bias transistor to switch it on…

Hiya kewl, Thanks been busy though…
How are you?

All this negative …
All this negative impedance stuff actually originates from oldschool RF antenna technology.

I have a garden …
I have a garden lite and its horrible. I think a Joule thief would do better .. except someone would need to modify the Joule thief to have the on-when-dark capability.

if its not a joule …
if its not a joule theif its some sort of voltage increasing circuit
