These are two low voltage 12 volt LED lights I came up with for Richard Ponce of So Cal Solar Store. He is testing them out in his backyard and will be using them on a solar lighting system.
The first one (overhead light) is a Home Depot EcoSmart (made by Lighting Science Group) 6 watt LED MR-16 with some homemade optic added on top which I stuffed into the casing of a 12 volt compact fluorescent lamp that came with the 45 watt Harbor Freight solar kit.
The second one (spot light pointed at wall) is a Lowe’s Portfolio low voltage landscape floodlight with a 3 watt Cree XP-E led in it.
This family has put up this light show for sevral years. They use the money they get for donations for a local organization. If you watch the hole thing ( 10 ) minutes long you will here the little boy talking about the facts. It took 3 months to set up. 70 thousand led lights, and miles of wire. Just watch the hole thing. Some parts are blurry because of all the lights but a majority is a clear picture. Make sure your volume is up because the lights blink with the music.

Using an Arduino Uno to control my 8 strings of Christmas lights. I wrote the code from scratch myself. I used 8 solid state relays to switch the AC power to the strings. They are not LED Christmas lights, they’re normal incandescent mini bulbs. I used a 74hc595 shift register to run the 7 segment LED display which shows the current mode, but the light relays are run directly off the mainboard without a shift register. I added the binary mode for an extra geeky touch. More details on my website:
